The beach was nice, though small in comparison to the endless miles of white, sugar sand on Florida's northern coast. The grounds are landscaped nicely, with plenty of large canopy trees to provide shade. This beach is larger than the popular ones south of Kona.
This beach is big and beautiful but a little too crowded for my taste. The three times I've been there the parking has been terrible. I had a Big Island Trailblazer guidebook with me on the trip and found alternative beaches that were close to deserted. Hapuna had good bodyboarding and the picnic areas are off the sand so that was ...
Hapuna is one of the best beaches! I lived on the Island for 8 months and proposed to my now wife on this great beach! We loved it so much that I would go there instead of staying on a resort beach! Be careful boogie-boarding (shallow waters!) But other than that.... enjoy this great Big Island beach!!! If you're up for a drive hit Honaunau.... great snorkelling!
As far as Hawaii goes, Hapuna is all-around great. Between this one and Hanauma Bay, it's a toss up for me. Hanauma had better snorkeling, but Hapuna was less busy. I could easily spend a year on either if I had the time. Check it out--not too far a drive from Kailua-Kona.
This beach stretch for miles as I looked out at the coastline. The sand was so fine and warm. The water was so clear. There was a paved path that led you down to the ocean which was uncommon among the beaches of Hawaii.
I was among 20-30 people with cameras snapping pictures of the sun setting. It was such an awesome experience. So peaceful and serene. This is a MUST stop for anyone visting the Big Island.
I've been to beaches all around the Big Island and I have to say that Hapuna is one of my favorites. The white sand is almost fluffy and the water is always clean. It's a northwest facing shore which means that there are waves there in the winter months and none during the summer. The beach is pretty close to Kawaihae village which hosts ...
I am in love with this beach!! It has an incredible surf, and the water is gorgeous! I just returned from vacation, and I was gone 13 days, we went there 8 of the 13 days, because there was no better beach.
The waves can get rough unexpectedly, so keep a close watch on young ones. The waves are perfect for boogie boarding and body surfing.
Hapuna Beach is the most amazing beautiful place i have been. Awesome waves, sparkling white sand, incredible lava rocks that line the beach, which make perfect jumping rocks. What else can you ask for. Its the perfect island beach.
Hapuna beach park is the best white sand beach that I've been to in Hawaii. It's a beautiful white sand beach that's not that crowded. There is a bit of surf, so it's not really a swimming beach, but it's great if you want to boogie board, or just wade in and enjoy the sun.
Snorkeling is strongly discouraged. The lifeguards stopped some guy from trying to snorkel. The day I went, the surf was a bit too rough to swim in.
