There isn't anything too special about this state park, especially considering all the state parks in northern california parks in the area. The Mill is a nice resting picnic spot and very peaceful. The staff is both VERY informative and engaging... The docent/miller and the store staff are friendly and genuine... It's clear they have a passion for the site and a genuine connection to its history as well as the remarkable flavor and history associated therein...

Off the beaten track

If you are looking for a place to escape the crowds in St. Helena or Calistoga, this is a good place to take a quiet hike. The trails are easy and not heavily trafficked. The scenery is not phenomenal, though there is a very interesting old mill and you will see plenty of native California plants. It is free (or was when I went) and makes a nice break from all the shops and spas and wineries.
