The location is great, because of the Penn Station, and that is about it. The staff was nice as well, but the problems outweighed the staff. That big of a hotel name and facility there are just some problems that are not expected. Check in, I believe, is at 3pm, but I spent a day in New York before getting to the hotel to check-in. I got there a ...

Old and dingy. It may not be dirty but it feels like it is. It's simply not up to Hilton's typical standards and needs renovation.

Newark Gateway great choice
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/07/06
I took my Girl Scout troop from California to this hotel in Feb 2006. We got newly renovated rooms that were very nice. There was a shuttle from the airport that cut down our costs. The location worked well since the hotel is connected to Penn Station. We took the PATH train to Manhattan every day. If you come back too late, the gateway is ...

You Get What You Pay For

I stayed at the Gateway 6 years ago and it is clearly evident that no, zero, nada capital improvement money has been spent since then.
Unfortunately, I stay at the Gateway for business week after week due to its location in proximity to my client.
The service in the restaurant/bar was good but the menu is limited and the food is average at ...

Not what I expected
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/18/05
I stayed in the Gateway 20 years ago. It doesn't look like any capital improvement money was spent since then.
The food and service in the restaurants was good. But no one was in them.
Beds were soft and mushy. The room was narrow. It smelled. Someone left a brown eye on the toilet seat. Need I say more?

The rooms were very spacious with large beds--California King. Because it's close to transportation and many other things,Great food and bar, it makes this hotel a must!
