I had to book at last minute hotel during a time when a very large convention was in town. The El Cortez was the only one I could find for under 200 dollars, and there was a reason why. I stayed in the Pavillion, and it was VERY loud. I could hear conversations in the rooms next to mine as well as outside. There is construction all around the hotel which starts at 6am. The restaurants look like a scene out of 1960's Iowa, and barely eatible.

My husband and I went to Vegas for my birthday. We thought we might have made a mistake booking there because of the price. But from the time we pulled up to the front door we were greeted with kindness and caring people.Check in was fast. Rooms were very nice. The food was good. It is close to the Fremont Experience (1 block away).Valet was fast ...

I had a hard time finding a decently priced place to stay, but found this place on a web site. price was excellent, $30 a night for 4 week nights. I paid for a pavillion room but was upgraded to a tower room since the pavillions were overbooked.
As others have said, this is a decent hotel but nowhere near as nice as strip hotels so you are ...

Pros and Cons
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/05/07
El Cortez rolls out the red carpet with comps and good value. You will not find a cleaner more comfortable hotel anywhere downtown. The price is great for the tower rooms....the views from the upper floors are fantastic. The rooms are huge with the exception of the smaller bathroom and are modern and tasteful. We were given a welcome gift of ...

What a lovely room and fun casino
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/05/07
We couldn't believe how nice the rooms were when we checked in. The view was outstanding and what a relaxing room when one wants to take a break from the activities in Vegas. We are planning our regular trip to Vegas in Oct. or early Nov. and can hardly wait to once again enjoy the El Cortez for gambling and hotel.

I stayed here in august 07....and felt right at home. El Cortez may not be as flash as those fancy places on the strip but I didn't want that over the top stuff anyway.
I too met the owner in the elevator on the first day I was there. At the buffet the meals were all I needed. The staff helpful and friendly. One barman had a little ...

GOOD TIMES ARE GONE!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/25/07
I STARTED STAYING AT THE EL C SIX YEARS AGO. MY IN-LAWS ALWAYS STAYED THERE AND FOR THE PRICE OF THE ROOM, FOOD AND LOCATION YOU COULDN'T BEAT IT. THE CASINO WAS FUN. THEY USED TO ANNOUNCE WINNERS VERY OFTEN AND THE MACHINES AT THE BAR WERE GREAT TO SIT AT. YOU COULD TALK TO THE GREY HAIRED BARTENDER AND SPEND SOME TIME ENJOYING A COLD DRINK. ...

El Cortez Hotel Still a Dump.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/23/07
The place has new carpet but is still full of very nasty looking people off the street, watch your purse ladies. The food in the Cafe is really worse than Pig Slop. We complained to the manager, but were told we had no taste, really thats what he said. Get a place on the strip and AVOID THE EL CORTEZ HOTEL AND CASINO AT ALL COSTS. The over all ...
