I stayed here the night for when Prince was in Detroit. The view from my room was spectacular! Viewing the city and bridge at night was breathtaking from the window I was sitting in. I still remember how great my stay was 20years later.

Beautiful Riverfront Hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/26/05
Hatel Pontchartrain is right across the street from Hart Plaza, where all of the major music festivals are held, so the location cant be beat if u are attending one of them. (You get to park in their structure too, eliminating the need to drive around for an hour looking for a safe place to park...) Our room was a corner room on the 10th floor, ...

We had a great time!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/26/05
We stayed at this hotel summer of 2003. It's in a great location in downtown Detroit and walking distance to the exciting casinos... and don't forget across the border Windsor Canada. You won't be disappointed!! Friendly staff, very helpful!!

The best hotel for the price!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/26/05
The Hotel Ponchartrain is located in the heart of Detroit. It is within walking distance of such great places as Greek Town and Cobo Hall. The atmosphere of the hotel was great and the rooms and services were impecable.

Over all nice!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/25/05
I liked the service and location. The people were nice and we could easily get to our reunion with the rest of the family. I would visit this hotel again.
I liked the employees. They made me feel appreciated and valued. They made sure that I was secure in the building by giving security checks in order to make sure people coming into the building belonged there. Thanks pontchartrain! Also, my aunt had a wedding reception there and its elegance captured me so as a child that I never forgot it as an adult.

Hotel needs updating still in the 50's. Lobby escalator still not working. Rooms appeared clean but wallpaper peeling, bathroom tiles stained, room carpet looked dirty. Could be a top hotel,if they spent money to maintain. Class should be 2 stars to match Motel 6.

Won't go back there

The only good thing about this hotel is it's location. I was traveling on business and needed to attend an event at the COBO Center so the location was perfect. For a first time visitor to downtown detroit, I found this hotel to be sadly lacking in food and drink, not to mention towels and matches (in a smoking room). The reviews I read before ...
Our hot water did not work and it took maintenaince 2 hours to fix it, We found this out after the Red Wings game, SO it was a bit late taking a shower!! Other wise the Atmosphere is great, and the location is Awsome!
Ponchartrain is a typical 3* hotel in Detroit at a 4* price. The service and dcor is nothing great, but the price is quite ridiculous. The only saving grace for the hotel is the good location, close to the waterfront and Cobo Hall.
