STAYED HERE SEVERAL TIMES SINCE 1989. OCEAN VIEW IS WELL WORTH EXTRA MONEY. HAS ALOHA SPIRIT. BORDERS LILLIUKULANI PARK, COCONUT MOKUOLA ISLAND, IMPRESSIVE WATCHING CRUISE SHIPS HEAD RIGHT TOWARD HOTEL. GREAT BREAKFASTS, GREAT LOCATION. PREFER FRIENDS AT BEACH B AND B NOW FOR MORE SECLUDED ATMOSPHERE RATHER THAN HOTEL.,

Sad a Great Place slipping Away
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/30/08
I first stayed in 2000. Loved the place, though a little dated. I even liked that. Last stayed in November 2007. The hotel is getting pretty tired. Dirty carpets in the halls. The bedspreads and linens are worn. Musty smell in the hallways. Such a great location. Too bad no one cares to keep the place spruced up. Will not stay there until I hear they have done some work on the place.
i stayed here twice, once in sept 07 and in mar 08. this time i got an ocean view room (worth every penny). very clean. friendly people. great food in the restaurant.

Love the views, the people, all good. Wish there was a n option to have a ceiling fan on in the rooms rather than air conditioning.

We won't stay anywhere else!!

While the hotel is older and the exterior gives the impression of a shabbier place, the inside is up to date and efficient. The rooms are very large (rare in most cases), the atmosphere is relaxed, the staff is extremely helpful. We had a view of Hilo Bay from the 8th floor & it was beautiful. The hotel grounds are great (banyan trees, fish ...

Stinky
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/23/07
Everything was fine except the odor and the maid I told about the odor. When the doors were closed, the room quickly and powerfully smelled like fried eggs. I finally discovered that the odor came from the vinyl drapes. When a maid came in to clean, I nicely mentioned it to her, and she rudely told me that it was impossible since the drapes had ...
We were at the Hilo Hawaiian for two nights, Oct 16-17, 2007. Our room looked out to the ocean and a couple of times were saw cruise ships go right past, my kids loved it! We ate at the hotel's restaurant for dinners and one breakfast and found our plates full of delicious food. Well worth the price. Hotel is about 35 minutes from Hawaii ...

As Good as It Gets, Unfortunately
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/18/07
This hotel is clean with very friendly staff, and a steal at less than $100 a night, but is so outdated that it could not be considered nice by any means. The place smells old, looks old, and is old. I dare not ask how long the bedspeads and shower curtains have been in the rooms.
One day a Hilton, Mariott, or other national chain will set up ...

average stay

My husband and I stayed one night and had breakfast there. The room was large and clean. Breakfast was average. We enjoyed the views and the park next door. Yes we would go back.
This was our last stop in Hawaii. This hotel is very close to the Hilo airport. It is next to the water on the bay. We had an ocean view that was beautiful. We saw a rainbow out our window in the morning. The room was standard size with two queen beds. It was clean and we were all comfortable. We had dinner at the restaurant downstairs. The ...
