The Griswold Inn has a great location and good atmosphere in Essex CT, it is not matched by the poor quality of the food. I had an appetizer of Clams Casino, expecting the traditional with chopped onions & peppers etc topped with bacon I instead received what appeared to be baked stuffed clams with flavorless bread crumbs piled high on the ...
Every Monday night starting at 8pm, the Griswold Inn has the "Jovial Crew" grace thier bar area and sing sea shanties. The music is great and everyone sings along. You don't need to know any Sea Shanties, you pick it up as you go. I have brought family and friends multiple times, and they all enjoyed it and want to come back next ...

Very limited menu offering. Skate was on the menu, but our waitress informed that it wasn't popular and probably wouldn't stay on the menu--not a good endorsement. By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/18/05
The historic background and scene of this inn/resteraunt is what pulled me into it. It is definatley a place that I won't forget. Also the service at the resteraunt was wonderful. A very appealing menu.

The charm of the Griswold is priceless. The history and beauty of the building is worth a thousand words. Essex is one of the most quaint places my family has been to in years. Where else do they have a banjo sing along at a bar presidents have been at.
