I reserved this room despite the previous reviews. I figured with the nice location how bad can it be? I don't know where everyone else stayed before but the IS a three star hotel!!! I got "stuck" there and did not have much choice. You had better have a vehicle or you are stuck there - no transportation. The restaurant was lovely, but the food was way over priced. If I had a vehicle, I would consider staying there again.

The best thing I could say about Kona Kai is the location, but then there are other choices on Shelter Island and elsewhere in San Diego. You only have to read others' reviews of the condition of the rooms to get the picture; I had a similar experience and have nothing to add in that department. PRO'S:
- clean room, nice view of the marina, quiet at night but you can hear door slamming from other rooms next door or across the hallway.

i disliked the 15.00 parking charge the room was immaculate but just your standard size. the write up about this place leads you to believe it is huge. i would stay here again. it was very quiet here.

We had an excellent time at this hotel/resort! The rooms were super cute with a nice balcony area, prefect for lunch, overlooking the bay. We watched sail boats come and go and then had dinner at the hotel restaurant. Food was great! all the employees were super nice and helpful. The pool area was clean and the bar was close by. Stayed 2 nights, wish I was still there!
