The Crown in Ventura was great and the people were the best. The homeless that live on the Ventura Pier were agressive and nasty. Across from our room was the parking garage the hotel was using temporairly during its rennovation. We saw a drug deal going down on the roof across the way one morning when we got up early.
We're very glad that the Crowne Plaza chain took over. It's hard to believe that one of the largest hotel chains, Holiday Inn, could let this gem of a hotel get SO run down. The location is perfect, right on the beach. All of the staff members were very helpful, friendly and courteous. We will definitely return when the renovations are completed.

Working around the improvements

Obviously ongoing construction is a factor at this hotel. Despite reading some negative comments prior to our visit we found the Crowne staff to go out of their way to work with the construction and guests. Construction workers were friendly and made it a point to not distrupt the guests. We found accounts of $8.00 per day parking to not be true ...

THE NEW CROWNE PLAZA HAS WON ME OVER!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/05/06
I travel out to Ventura every month for both business and pleasure and am truly impressed with what they have done with the place. I stayed once before when it was a Holiday Inn and said I would never come back. Well, thanks to a few associates of mine I gave it another try as a Crowne Plaza that is, and they have won me over! From check in to ...

Great location, but currently undergoing renovations and lots of noise from the nearby train tracks
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/25/06
Overall the room was OK, for the price and the location. It is right on the beach with a great view. Additional $8 for parking.
The hotel is currently undergoing some renovations after it changed from a Holiday Inn to a Crowne Plaza hotel. Lots of noise from the nearby train tracks. The sound insulation seemed non-existent. Not exactly the ...

Very Disappointing . . .
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/28/06
Crowne Plaza Resorts and Hotels has a good reputation but not for long if their hotel in Ventura, California continues to receive guests. We stayed the night of January 27, 2006.
1. The hotel is under renovation and that fact is not advertised by the hotel. It's a mess. In all fairness to the public it should be closed until the work is ...

Don't stay here!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/18/05
We stayed here for one week, immediately after room remodeling. This remodeling was mainly limited to a few cosmetic changes, with the room layout, size, fixtures, and bathroom essentially appearing unchanged. In other words, these rooms still look tired and worn, are extremely tiny, and basically not worth anywhere near the price. We had ...
The location is the best aspect of the Crowne Plaza, right off the beach and easy walking distance to main street Ventura. However, my Oceanview Room was hardly that. I could get a glimpse of the ocean if I stuck my head out the window and stretched out far enough. Service was adequate, but in the few minutes at the lobby, I overhead two ...
