My husband and I stayed at Shutters for the last few nights of our honeymoon in beautiful Santa Monica. We anticipated nothing but perfect luxury. However, we stayed the week prior in an equally beautiful, boutique hotel with exceptional service, location and amenities, and so our experience at Shutters became a sore disappointment. If you're looking for a place with a beach view for your wedding or reception, don't go to Shutters! It may be on the beach, but when I went by appointment to view their facilities for a wedding reception, I was shown a banquet area on the ground floor, right at the beach, but the windows were "faux." When I asked about a view, I was told the windows do not open and there is NO BEACH VIEW from the reception area.
My friends and I stayed here the week before we all went off to our seperate colledges...it was an amazing week and the hotel was extremely acomidating!
Way overpriced. Rooms were nice enough, in fact very nice. But, to have to pay for a beach chair when spending over $400/ night? Give me a break. Also, the Pedals cafe? Had breakfast there. 4 people, pancakes and coffee, $88. $16 for 3 panckes, really pretty outrageous. Nice location, nice room, probably would opt for somewhere else next time.
not the only luxury hotel on the beach in Santa Monica

I stayed at Shutters on the Beach for a wedding that was held there in 2000. While it is a nice hotel, I would recommend staying at their "sister" hotel Casa Del Mar, which is also right on the beach and much more luxurious, dramatic, and tastefully-designed in my opinion.
Nothing is better than a view of the sunset from a clean white Shutters room. Comfy and cozy and superb. If Polo designed a hotel room for summering billionaire preppies, this is what they would come up with.
