Food and tavern were spectacular! School house suite looked beautiful in the picture but what a disappointment. I am all for historic places but this place needs some serious maintenance especially for the price. The bathroom tub didn't drain and the whole bathroom just needed maintenance. Needs restoring and cleaning. It's very old-fashioned, but not in a stylish or endearing way. Prices should be lowered to reflect its current condition. Service underwhelming. Location and wifi are its only saving graces.

Tollgate hill inn was everything expected, a charming historic inn with an outstanding restaurant. We stayed in the lower building and found the room to be spacious, clean and well furnished. Our room in restaurant building on 3rd floor smelled "old". The rug was stained, way past its prime - very unpleasant. There was a large stain on the blanket on the bed. We were given a towel that had rust stains and other unknown blotches on it - something to wipe the dog with, not a paying customer! Would not go back!

Lackadaisical service, dirty rooms, high prices, unpalatable food all added up to a very unpleasant stay. As a capper, on my last night I was locked out of my building: my room key would not open the locked outside door. No one was on site to help and two "emergency" numbers went unanswered. Went to a Jazz Festival weekend of 11/12. Buffet Food was excellent. Inn Keepers were very accomodating and friendly. Room was comfortable and warm on a cold, stormy night.
