Stayed for four weeks spread over April to July. Always had a sea view room with fantastic views. Great location. Very convenient for city centre, Green Square and the markets. The pool was not open in April. But for the last two weeks in June and July, more often than not, I was the only one swimming. Wonderful weather and some great memories. You ...

Counting the days to departure!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/25/08
As many have noted, the Al-Kabir has definitely seen better days. On the plus side, it's historic and wonderfully located. The cleaning staff were quite charming and concerned that we enjoy our stay. The Internet Cafe in the lobby provided reliable wired service (we didn't try the wireless) for a small charge (usually about 2 Libyan dinar). ...

I will stay here again!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/13/08
From reading some of the reviews of the Al-Kabir hotel the people should have stayed at the Corinthia and paid the exhorbitant rates.
Internet is available from your room, you purchase a pre-paid card and use dial up via the phone in your room.I have stayed here on numerous occassions the staff are very friendly and hospitable if you treat them ...

A different experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/13/07
The Funduq Al-Kabir is located very conveniently to downtown Tripoli. Although the rooms we were allocated didn't have a fantastic view, there are rooms that look out onto the harbour.
The hotel itself is very clean and there is a friendly but efficient atmosphere. It is quite male dominated in terms of front of house staff. The staff ...

not that bad for a short period
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/10/06
I am staying at the Al Kabir (10th December 2006) and will have been there 4 days when I leave. In comparison with the Corinthia it is very average but as the Corinthia costs 300 dollars a night and the Al Kabir 100 dollars a night you cant really moan. The breakfast is just about adequate although pretty boring after 4 days, the gym is pretty ...

WOULD RECOMMENED
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/17/06
MADE US FEEL WELCOME AT ALL TIMES CLEAN AND THE CLEANERS WERE VERY HELPFUL FOOD AND BEVERAGES WERE ALWAYS TO A HIGH STANDARD AND ENLISH WAS SPOKEN
I was in Tripoli for a week and had the pleasure to stay at the Al-Kabir. It was excellent in value and location. It is within reasonable walking distance of the Jamahiriya Museum, the old town, the green square, and if you are ambitious, the Corniche. The main restaurant was buffet only. However, the couscous and lamb dishes were delicious. ...
I have now been in the hotel for a week and am dreading my remaining tim ein this hotel. As previously said, it is not 'bad'. The rooms have seen better days, it would be nice if the lights all worked in the room, it wouldbe nice if the power sockets worked, but at least the sheets are clean, the towels are clean. BUT, it's the food ...
