I am from the contractors staff, and I had the chance to stay during Oberoy's period (September 1984)

Me and the boys make a trip every few months and always stay at the babylon. No one bothers us as we carry a full compliment of armaments including large caliber pistolas, AKs, 4 machine guns, 4 grenade launchers, 2 bazookas, 2 antitank missle launchers for our street use. We lay down a nice path of small arms fire on each new block we enter. We ...

Very Romantic
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/03/08
This is a very romantic place. The locals call it "Canine Corner" for all the wild stray dogs that come and go thru the place at all hours. Some even live in the hotel. There are piles all over the place so you must be able to put up with flies. The bathrooms are not working so you must go to the "urinehut" outside in the ...
The Babalon Hotel is well suited for out of the way meetings with clandestine people of different political parties. Don't leave the hotel at night and make sure you lock your sliding glass door.
The hotel is under obsevation by resistance elements. Be careful, but it can be a nuetral place to have private meetings.
i liked alot and i disliked nothing the place is wonderfull and as i said i cant wait to go back again and visit my country and my friends

been there, done that
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/19/05
it is in a terrible state of decay, the food is horrible, the personel is great. It once was, undoubtedly, Baghdad's finest - not anymore. May it be again some day, when times are better and I can stay there without worries. I liked the location, heard that it got hit today ( 18 Nov 2005) hope it wasnt too bad.
Run down, AC barely works, when it works at all. Everything is falling apart. Pretty much every thing in the hotel is either inoperative, or barely functions. Looks like the place was heavily looted after the war, and still has not been fixed. The food is awful, bring some Cipro with you. The service is very poor and the prices are outrageous. $85 ...
... not for too long. Stayed here in early April for about 3 weeks. One can tell that the hotel has seen much better days. There are frequent brownouts (no generator), no A/C (at least when I stayed--they say they eventually turn it on in the Summer), and murky water out of the faucet. The staff was generally friendly. Workout room is in sorry ...
