Sofitel Metropole Hanoi
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/19/06
his is simply the place to stay in Hanoi. The hotel itself dates back to 1901, to the French colonial days, and it shows in every detail. In most East Asian capitals, the premier hotel is an ultra-modern Peninsula or Mandarin Oriental, or something like Singapore's Fullerton, a 21st-century hotel in an historic shell.
This hotel is on the way to my university, so I see it everyday. I have come there several times and it always bring me best thought. My first impression is that the car parking is rather large, and the guards are very polite. When I come inside, I can not stop looking outside because of the sight is very beautiful. This hotel have three out of ...
Sofitel Metropole - 15 Ngo Quyen, Ha noi $124-$490 /night Five star treatment, historic building (stay in the old section), lovely service, location etc.Great hotel. French Colonial decor. it's good value for the quality of rooms, facilities and service. Nice, serene, and relaxing place after a day in the hectic streets of Hanoi. This ...
The Sofitel Metropole is an exquisite gem that offers impecible service and facilities. The staff is friendly and attentive, and the restaurants, although somewhat pricey for Hanoi, provide outstanding meals. The bread alone is worth the trip. To the extent there is a flaw, it lies with the swimming pool. Cooling the pool water would make a dip in the pool a refreshing experience instead of the very hot bath that it is.
This hotel was renovated last year, and the rooms in the old wing have a nice combination of real modern luxury with old Asian flavor. Marble bathrooms with big showers and tubs and nice traditional woodwork, flat plasma tv's and ceiling fans - what was already the only place to stay in Hanoi in terms of location and style is now even more difficult to leave.
The Metropole is quite expensive in comparision to others', but for visitors who look for traditional Hanoi traditional atmosphere in luxury and exquisite cuisine, this is the place to go! The hotel locates in French quarter of Hanoi and just in a walikng distance from the old quarter and shopping street, you will wake up in a Hanoi-wise atmosphere and feel a long-lost romance.
