What a unique idea! For anyone who loves trains, the Red Caboose Motel is a must-stay! My husband and I were attending the November Trains and Troops swing dance, held at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg and had booked a caboose at the motel, literally minutes away from the museum, for the night. We found our "room" to be ...

we live -10 miles away and still stay!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/27/07
we first went for a couples birthday weekend. we liked it so much we decided to take our 4 kids one weekend! they had so much fun and we live less than 10 miles away. we go back at least 1 time every couple months. It's so much fun and it's so reasonably priced. we will continue to make it a family place to bond!
Let me start by saying I haven't stayed at the motel. We would like to try it and my 4 year old would love it but even from the outside the units look filthy and run down. However, the restaurant at the motel is THE BEST DEAL IN TOWN, no doubt about it. The food is simple family friendly and tasty. Try the homemade Chili, meatloaf or soups! ...

I would never do it again!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/16/06
The thought of sleeping in a caboose was very exciting. When we got in our caboose, it was hot, it stunk, and there was dirt about an inch deep under the bed. The beds were uncomfortable and the bathroom disgusting. When I paid over $100 for one night, I expected a clean place to stay. I will NEVER go back or recommend it!
This is just the place to go with the kids, especially when they are train enthusists! My 5 yo son was extremely excited that we were staying there, and kept talking about it for weeks afterwards. Don't expect the Marriot or Ritz Carlton; expect country charm, and enjoy the fact that you're sleeping in a caboose. The staff is very ...

Location is great for the kids especially during Thomas' visit to Strasburg
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/22/06
We had a great time again. This was our third year there. Since new management in 2005 we have seen much improvement. We were even entertained with a movie at night outside by the barn. My kids had a GREAT time and love to stay here.
If you love trains, it is a great place to stay and the location is walking distance to the toy train museum, Railroad Museum, and the Rail Yard. You can hear and see the trains go by right from your room.

Good for a one time experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/08/06
The location is great, especially if you love trains. The restaurant was good. There a fantastic woman who runs an on site buggy ride. The Caboose was cramped, and uncomfortable except for sleeping. The refriderator worked great. There was a micro wave, but you would have had to unplug the tv or refridgerator. We visited there in early may and it ...
My son and grandperants went for a few day. My son and dad got sick so, they gave us a credit for night we had left. Under New Management for about a year. I liked the food at the restaurant. We had breakfast.
The staff was very helpful and courteous.
A little drafty next to some of the windows. But still a good experience.

Could and Should be a lot better
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/13/06
My son loves trains, so for his birthday I took him to the Red Caboose Motel. I had heard that there were problems considering its recent take over by the bank. However, I thought it couldn't be that bad or it wouldn't be open! We arrived at 6pm to find our key in a labeled envelope taped to the outside of the office door!!! The caboose ...
