I stayed at the Knickerbocker to attend a conference, and when I looked at the reviews was very concerned that I may want to stay at a different hotel. But I was pleasantly surprised. The rooms aren't huge, but they are very comfortable, clean and offer a great view of the city. All of the staff (from the concierge to the cleaning staff to the bartenders) were incredibly helpful and especially friendly.
My friends and I (all in our mid 20's) wanted to take a relaxing first class vacation to Chicaago for a few days, so we chose to stay here. The moment we got there we regretted it. Check in was what I had expected, rudely nice. The bellhop Charlie was great! The room was about half the size of most hotels and it still had 2 full beds. The ...

What a difference a few years make!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/09/07
I have stayed at the hotel several times and always really enjoyed it - but this summer was my first stay in about 4 years - what a difference and not good. The room was clean and well decorated; however, the bathroom shower was a shock. I knew the room did not have a bathtub; but, was expecting a shower stall and could not believe the ...

Convenient and friendly
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/14/07
We stayed at this hotel for a wedding, so the bride and groom must have thought higly of it to reccommend it to their guests. The door staff was friendly and loaded our luggage onto a cart right away. Check-in was painless, and the bellman brought up our luggage. When we found the a/c didn't work, he sent an engineer to fix it.
The bed ...

rooms old, staff did not care, front office manager was the worst
Rooms were falling apart. For how much the hotel is there is still a daily charge for the internet ($10). No control over temperature inside room. Would not recommend this hotel for the price.

Better than expected
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/08/07
I booked this hotel because most others on-line were unavailable. Very nice older hotel and all around better than I expected. Yes the bathrooms are very small, but very typical of an older hotel. I would definately recommend the Junior Suite, not a regular room. The hotel is walking distance to great restaurants on Michigan, State and Rush ...
FIRST IMPRESSION: Upon arrival, my friend and I were greeted by a warm, friendly, helpful staff. Enjoyed the hospitality of bellman Charlie Hollywood; Peter the batender at the Martini Bar makes a mean martini; another bartender David has some great stories. Given its age and history, the hotel is noticeably worn around the edges despite the ...

Not worth the $

The hotel staff with the exception to the doorman was fine; the doorman should get lessons in etiquette or better yet be replaced. Rooms were about the size of a matchbox. Bedsheets did not even cover the matress. The bathrooms were even more disapointing because of poor craftsmanship and no bath tub. The location is the best thing about the hotel. However, I would not recommend it to a friend. You can find a better deal.
