The carpet in the room felt so dirty that I kept my shoes on the whole time. There was mold on the bathroom counter and the bathtub was rusted. The bathroom was so small I could barely get toilet paper without hitting the other wall. At 9 am, housekeeping was knocking on our door to clean our room...is there no system to figuring out who's checked out??? If this is a 4 star hotel, then it must be on a 10 point scale!

We booked this through Priceline and got the room for under 75, each room can sleep 6 easily and were very clean. Hotel staff goes out of there way to help you. I went there and there were fights that broke out and no security anywhere. Finally security came and pretty much did nothing. The cops showed up and did nothing but arrest someone that was the victim. They didn't even try to find the guy that was doing the fighting. I also saw wepons on the premises... which they did nothing about. Very unsafe. I will never go there again.

When we first pulled up, we were wow'd by the location (very central in the Newport Beach area) and overall landscaping and decor. It appeared very reflective of the beachy yet opulent Newport lifestyle. The service was good, and we felt very welcomed by the staff. Check-in was quick, and the staff was very helpful.

I don't know who rates hotels or what the criteria are for the star classification for hotels, but the Hyatt Regency, Newport Beach, CA is not a 4 star hotel by anyones standard. Overall, this is a nice family hotel and we enjoyed ourselves very much.We usually travel in Marriott's and perhaps they have spoiled us.
