We stayed in San Simeon,Ca for 6 days at this hotel. We visit San Simeon every year because we love the feel of a more secluded beach area and we are able to easily go to Paso Robles for wine tasting or to Morro Bay, Monterey/Carmel,etc. I had avoided this hotel due to a bad experience when it was El Rey..... things change! Since then, this place ...
They failed to indicate that the hotel was undergoing renovation when I made the reservations. The entire wing were we stayed had sheet rock on the walls! The walls were so thin that I could hear the t.v. from the next room. The room it self was sub par and the furniture very outdated. I could not tell if this was the "new" or old ...
The hotel seemed so old and outdated. The good thing about the hotel was the ocean nearby and having cable tv.The continental breakfast was awful. The only good thing there was coffee. We had breakfast outside by the pool and it was cold. Yeah there was a fire pit but 1 family occupied the entire fire pit area. The heater in our room, when turned ...
Very Clean, Fast Easy check in, Nice and Pleasant people. Room was personally decorated not cookie cutter stamped. Courtyard was picture perfect, breakfast was comfortable and well stocked
The room was clean and spacious, beautiful location and close to Hearst Castle. The only problem that we encountered was at time of check-in the older asian lady at the counter said she was not able to run my card to pay for the room. Thinking that something sounded wrong, I called my bank to find out that she charged my card 3 times for double ...

The hotel is is poor condition. Some of the worst beds I've ever slept on, bouncy and hard. Lights burned out, shelves broken, coffeemaker broken, toilet running constantly, worn furniture, bad TV reception. Continental breakfast was minimal. The staff was reasonably courteous, they just don't have much to work with. Stay elsewhere.

Man, I don't know what people expect from a bargain hotel on this site. This hotel was fine. We got a two room family suite for about $110 (can't beat that), an adequate continental breakfast, quiet and comfortable sleep in the perfect location to watch seals, otters and visit San Simeon. We thought staff were nice, friendly, and helpful. ...

This hotel can do better.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/07/05
For the price that I paid for my stay in this hotel, I think this hotel's management should put more effort to do better. It is not really a bad hotel but I was just disappointed by the fact that they named the place a 'garden inn' when their garden is not at all nice. And they serve the same boring breakfast every morning. On the ...
As an Angeleno who likes rugged coastline, road trips and the kind of fresh air you can't get in the city, I've grown to appreciate the quiet, relaxing beauty of California's glorious Central Coast. San Simeon, which lies just outside of artsy hamlet, Cambria, is my favorite of the low-key towns in the area and the El Rey Garden Inn is ...

The room was clean, the staff was great and the grounds were nice. I was very disappointed in the bed. It felt like I was sleeping on the floor. I have never slept on a bed that was so hard. I was sorry we stayed two nights. I would have rather stayed at the motel 6 next door and saved money as well as my back.
