I was in Baghdad early during the war and spent a couple of months sleeping in 20 cots to a room in the Palace....moving to the al rasheed was GREAT....I got a private room, but it was very small. electricity was off/on, and driving back to al Rasheed at 2300 and seeing NO lights, meant a long walk upstairs. the water was tepid, the water ...

It was a great place to move into after being on a cot in a room with 18 others in the Palace for a month or so. I had a small room, but a single. Most of us (back in May-August of '03) were doubled up. the electricity worked most of the time...getting back late at night, and seeing no lights meant you had a long walk up the stairs to your ...

While you can't beat the convenient location, the annoyance of every nut in town firing rockets into the bldg almost daily makes for fitful nights, good luck!

CORRECTING THE WORLD
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/08/06
It is surprising that the destruction (vandalism?) of the Al Rasheed is laid at the doorstep of the WA National Guard when in the entire year we were there we didn't live in it! We secured the perimeter and that is all. We lived in an entirely different building. I will admit that we strongly urged the pool be drained as it was withing easy ...

Scots Regiments Up Iraq Troops
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/24/05
Do not despair! The 1st Battalion The Highlanders and the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers & Greys) of the 7th Armoured Brigade are doing all within our power to redress the rape, pillage, and plunder done by the Washington National Guard (US). Kindly visit the al-Rasheed Hotel, we promise you will have a lovely time in historic Baghdad. By Order of The Colonel of the Regiment and the Officer Commanding.

Needs to be rebuilt from the ground up.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/21/05
The best part about the Al-Rasheed is that most people can't get in to the hotel. Currently under MNFI control, the WA Army National Guardsman and 82nd ABN Troops did a fine job keeping the suicide bombers out and preserving what little is left of the facility following the CPA reign of terror. Much of the details and finish work has been ...
