I was traveling alone on vacation February of 2008 and had decided to stay 2 nights at the St. James. This is definitely an old western hotel - complete with over 20 bullet holes in the "new" (early 1900s) tin ceiling over the restaurant and bar area. The rooms are up a flight of stairs, so it wouldn't work for someone who was ...

Best original hotel we have stayed in
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/24/08
The thing that we liked the best about the hotel was how original things had remained. You really get the feel of an old west hotel. We would like to have been able to see more of how the hotel was originally set up, as far as rooms go. Some have been modified to make larger rooms with bathrooms and it would be neat to know the original lay out. I ...

Lots of fun
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/18/07
we stayed in the old part of the hotel, next to the room that was closed off because of the ghost. We knocked on his door and offered him some fresh towels but I guess the ghost didn't think that was funny because he didn't respond. We had absolutely no paranormal experiences but it was great fun taking the tour of the place and hearing the history.

Spooky!

I guess you could say we enjoyed our stay at the St. James. After a long, tiring drive, we found ourselves in Cimarron well after midnight. We saw the flashing sign for the St. James and quickly parked out front.
Although the front door was unlocked, there was no one manning the desk. We walked through the dining room and into the bar, but ...

Dinner at the St. James Hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/28/05
Although our party of four did not overnight at the St. James hotel, we did stop and have dinner on August, 2005. Three of us ordered Buffalo pot roast ($17.00 per plate) and one ordered a New Mexico strip steak. The "pot roast" consisted of big chucks of boiled, frozen, and then microwaved buffalo meat. The meat was so chewy that we ...

It was OK
By sawbaw@swbell.net, 08/07/05
The rooms in the Annex were clean - but nothing to write home about. The desk staff were abrupt and not that interested in our stay. We will go back to enjoy the history but that is the only draw. The cafe staff were wonderful and friendly.

Historic St. James
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/20/05
This unique hotel, located in the small town of Cimarron, New Mexico is both historic and unusual for the it's location and it's place in western history. It is located just 4 miles from Philmont Scout Ranch and a world away from the common place.

not as friendly as they used to be
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/20/05
New owner was not quite as customer service oriented as we have seen in the past. They were not very acommodating on our last stay. The hotel is great. However, the owner shut the bar down early, and actually told the guests to go to their rooms! Service was not friendly, on two occaions they were plain rude. Sad, on past visits we had a great time!
