Very late into the process, we were very offhandedly booted from our reserved, contracted room because of "doublebooking," which is curious for such a small venue. The staff were not particularly helpful afterward. (We ended up with a much nicer room, better menu choices and a staff that couldn't be more helpful at another historic Charlottesville hotel.)
We were overcharged for our room, the merriweather and feel it is an overpriced inconvenient impostor of a luxury hotel. The pool isn't open year round and there is not much to do when it is cold out. the tennis courts are not functioning and walking trails meager. Would not recommend.
The Clifton was absolutely wonderful. My husband and I stayed there for a night and we just loved it. The room was gorgeous, the amenities awesome and the breakfast, absoulutely above and beyond. We'd love to stay there again.
We had an absolutely wonderful stay. Our room was luxurious, the service outstanding, and the property is beautful. The best aspect of the whole experience was the great food! Breakfast and dinner were amazing!
My wife and I loved this luxurious hideaway. We came for my cousins wedding, which was absolutely beautiful. The rooms are always warm and comforting. The robes are definately worth the visit. Bottles of port and sherry and slippers apart of the turndown service, really warm up cold nights.
The meals were absolutely delicious as well. Dinner was a treat and breakfast, usually just par for the course was a wonderful surprise.
Superb experience. Beautifully thought out, with classic design and lovely furnishings, great food, great service - what more could you ask? We spent two nights and had a wonderful time.
