The room I checked into was a single, had it's own sink and the bathrooms/showers were in the hallway. The towels they provide are really small so bring your own unless you have no issues with streaking your way back to your room. Otherwise the bathrooms were kept very clean. The room was small, but this is New York afterall.

Boutique Hotel Charm On The Cheap
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/09/05
We stayed at Hotel 17 for a quick NYC getaway in April. It's close to Union Square, the rooms are cute and the hotel is tidy. The shared bathrooms were surprisingly easy to access and kept very clean. I loved Hotel 17 and look forward to trying out the other hotel in the chain, Hotel 31.

A Quaint Queerness in Chelsea
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/26/05
Only a short, brisk walk from Union Square's metro terminals, I found myself gleaming as I approached the canopy and stately transformed facade of Hotel 17. Climbing the steps, I soon found myself nestled in a foyer reminiscent of Morocco with its warm wooden accents and allure of the East. A ring of the "bell" summoned a charming ...
The staff was very helpful and curteous. It was in the proximity of all the different must see sites in NYC. It was affordable. Though, there were share bathrooms, they were kept very clean. :) I would definitely stay in this hotel again and I recommend it.
Hotel 17 is for the budget traveler. I have stayed at Hotel 17 twice (August of 2003 and again last month April 2005)and have been satisfied with my stay both times. Not only is it located close to buslines and subways - it's walking distance to the East Village and Lower East Side where the nightlife scene is booming.
A friend and I went to NYC in late February and stayed at Hotel 17. Our main objectives were to 1) stay somewhere near the East Village and 2) not spend a lot of money on lodgings. The first room we were given was freezing as the window had a hollow space between it and the wall. We were quickly moved into another room down the hall which was ...

Very impressed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/16/05
Knowing that Hotel 17 was a budget hotel in NYC, I expected a less than welcoming atmosphere. But I fortunately did not get what I expected. It was a quaint and very cleanly hotel located right near Union Square. On each floor I believe there were four bathrooms for everyone to share, but they were well cleaned and convenient. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay and I would recomend it.

Cant wait to stay again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/15/05
Hotel was a clean, nice, privet, and cheap hotel. I loved the location and the fact that it was out of the way just enough to say so. The people there were friendly and nice, ad the service was just as good as most of the other hotels Ive been to. But if you like to have food dilivered to you in the morning then you might have a problem.

Hotel 17 is a good economy choice if you don't mind sharing a bathroom. It is clean and seems to be well managed. The staff is curteous and helpful.
The rooms are quite small and not the sort of place you would want to spend a lot of time. But it does provide a decent place to take a break, change cloths and get a night's sleep. With all there is to do in New York, that is enough.
