We stayed at the Grand Ely Lodge in late October and found it to be a great place. It was too cold outside to do the paddling we'd normally like to do anyway, so we didn't mind not having lake access right out our door. The lake view from our room was beautiful. The common areas of the lodge and the guestrooms were tastefully decorated ...
The grand Ely Lodge is a very nice place to stay. When I can to Ely to visit once, I stayed a the Grand Ely Lodge and the rooms are very nice and the service was excellent. The food is good as well.

Restaraunt

The food was excelent in the restaraunt, with terrific service! the pool is excelent with an awesome log truss system in the pool area. however, if you are looking for a rustic northwoods lodge right on the edge of the lake, this is not it. it has a terrific view of the lake but it is a small hike to get there. it is a great place to spend a night or 2 in your travels northern minnesota!
i have been here many times service could be a little better but ammenities are great old town atmosphere i look forward to going there every year! nice pool hot tub close to town overlooking a beautiful lake friendly staff restraunt slow though but your on vacation whats the rush?

Not what we expected
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/18/05
We thought we were going to a northwoods lodge instead we arrived at a hotel in a residential area on the edge of town. Nice Distant Lake View
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/30/04
Nice lobby area however the hotel is along ways from the lake. The room was ok however the view is very distant. We waited a long time for our dinner and waited a longer time for room service, then the personnel did not seem to care. I suppose this can happen but we were disappointed.
