Dutch Harbor is not exactly on the way to anywhere (I was there for the Whiskered Auklets). The hotel has adequate rooms, fair to good service outside the dining room. But the FOOD!! Views from the room are pretty, watery, birdy. Lobby is dramatic and I liked it in the morning for coffee and reading the paper. In the room, they were stingy with towels and washcloths, and we had to pester staff in January for more linens. But the big deal here is the FOOD. It is generous, beautiful, fresh, and delicious. The Grand Aleutian has wonderful food. The lobby is beautiful. Unfortunately, the rooms look as though they haven't been maintained well. It looks and feels very worn.
