We were fairly excited about staying at the Dunhill on our way home from a family vacation. It is very near Charlotte's kids museum, and also near many shops and restaurants. We were also intrigued by its historic roots and classic style.
I supposed I had envisioned something like the O. Henry in Greensboro, if not the Hermitage in Nashville. ...

I just stayed in this hotel over the weekend. I was attracted to the hotel because of its location and historic appeal. I would not stay there again. The rooms were not only "historic" but also dirty. The carpets were disgusting and I was not pleased with the cleanliness of the bathroom. On a positive note, parking was convenient, however ...

Avoid at all costs!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/06/07
Doorman ignored us on arrival instead preferring to finish his cigarette on the corner. When he did deem to assist it was to dump the bags at the foot of the stairs to reception and hang around for a tip. Reception was terrible, a level of disinterest that was tangible. The lift to the room was just downright dirty, not patina but dirt. The room ...

Never again!

The hotel was not too bad. The room was decent sized and I did not mind the poor condition of the room due to the fact that this is a historic hotel. The staff was rude and very unhelpful. I decided to eat at their restaurant and was disgusted. Poor menu selections, ill prepared meals with fine dinning prices. On top of all this the chef actually ...

We never stay anywhere else
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/03/06
Whenever my husband and I are in Charlotte we stay at The Dunhill Hotel. We have stayed there 2 to 3 times a year for the last 8 years -- beginning with our honeymoon -- and have always had a positive experience. Our stays have not always been perfect, but when there is a problem the staff go out of their way to make it right, whatever it is. The ...
We thought that the friendliness of the staff was the best. Especially the Doormen and the Bartender...We won't stay anywhere else in UPtown...and the location is perfect to get to anywhere in uptown...

You'd probably rather stay somewhere else.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/02/06
The hotel has much potential. The building is historic, and the lobby and rooms reflect yester-year and are for the most part charming. There's a lot of fine ambiance to take in. Unfortunately, it's the lack of service by seemingly disinterested and very consistently snotty personnel that all made the charm fade away.
Further, there ...

Room was filthy and service was horrible!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/18/06
I checked into my room late (a smoking and only available). The room stunk of tobacco smoke, the carpets were filthy. I went into the bathroom to use the toilet and it appeared that to bathroom hadn't been cleaned since someone had recently urinated in the toilet (good indication). I flushed the toilet and all kinds of unmentionable things ...
The finest hotel in Charlotte, bar none. I spent the night there with my new wife, and we will be back every year. Plush, pleasant and extremely well-located. And, a rarity in Charlotte, that historic feel you usually don't find uptown.
