Lovely setting with a beautiful view of the lake, open restaurant surrounded by nice plantings, monkeys looking for sucker tourists. But just too old. Needs drastic refurbishing. Food iffy. People are great.

Yes, as another reviewer said, this hotel is a bit worn around the edges, as it is 30 years old and does not appear to have had a lot of care in the interim. We stayed here on two different occasions. Watch out for the elevators, as one of them doesn't come down level with the floor, and you'll trip for sure! And you have to hold the ...

Worn but Excellent

We have just returned from an 11 day stay at the Sunset, whilst working on bringing a water supply to a very rural health clinic in the Sianda District. It was bliss to return to a clean hotel & a hot bath every evening after long dirty days at work. The staff are superb. Talk to them, get to know them. The food was splendid, although the menu ...

When this hotel was built years ago, I am sure it was a gem in the midst of the beautiful African landscape. Now it is a bit worn at the edges. The food was excellent and lots of it, some of which we could not identify but the staff was always willing to clue us in. We had hot water most of the time, but I recommend baths early in the evening as ...

AN AWESOME EXPERIENCE
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 12/12/06
We stayed at the Sunset for 8 days and had a very pleasant stay. Our room was clean and there was hot water every day. Bottled water was provided for drinking every day also. We were not bothered by mosquitoes or any other insects during our stay. The power was out only one time during a storm. The food in the dining room was very good and the ...

Hotel By the Lake
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 06/20/06
Having stayed a week in the Sunset, I found the place to have all the necessary Amenities that one would need for this part of Kenya. The food was acceptable the rooms were clean with the exception of ants when we first arrived. But,one must remember where you at located - Africa. It seemed that when a thunderstorm is near, power has a real ...
