After spending one miserable night in at the Copacabana Hotel (not recommended) my fiancee and I moved to the Hotel Cortez and were very impressed. Clean rooms, good staff, in room WiFi and the pool/sauna all made this a great choice. There are good restaurants nearby (the hotel has two restaurants but the food is mediocre). I stayed here for work several weeks 2005. I found the hotel staff to be exceptionally helpful and friendly. The hotel's location is a short 10 minute walk from the center of town and the courtyard is great.
The only thing I would caution about is if possible try not to have a room facing the main road (try to get one facing the pool).
