First, I must say that the room and cleaning staff were excellent. That being said, I found the restaurant service to be incredibly slllllllloooooooowwwwwwww and the food overpriced. One of the kids ordered macaroni and cheese for supper. I expected it to be some sort of casserole of macaroni and parmesan or mozzarella cheese for $9.00. Turned ...
This is a beautiful old hotel with charm galore. You can just picture the rich snobby NYC & Newport Elite who skipped over Bar Harbor strutting around with their 3 piece suits and sunshade umbrellas...It is a nice place to go and relax by the ocean take a deep breath, and let it out. This elegant hotle, is one of the nicest hotels that i have stayed at. It is such an amazing place. The sort-of old fashion/newly renovated style works and makes this hotel so unique. I strongly recommened this hotel to anyone. The rooms are incredible....and hey...steven speilberg wrote "The Shining" here!!!
I loved everything about the algonquin...it's pricy but every penny worth it. The most beautiful place I have ever been.

A MUST come back again next summer.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/06/05

I found the activities extremely fun but the pool- in the summer tourist season- to be less open to towns people like usual and it brought down the fun to meet REAL locals of the town. The rooms where exquisite, the beds very soft. My only ...
