I loved this place and can only hope they are planning on resurrecting it and not replacing it with homes. I was very sad to see it gone.

amazing landmark, poor hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 06/21/06
The Ocean House, while indeed worthy of the Victorian Age, has not kept up with the times. It is beautiful, despite the chipping paint, slanting hallways, and mold, all presenting a fire hazard. However, the charm is a direct result of it being unmodified in the past 100 years. So, make a reservation in Watch Hill, and go visit the Ocean House. I do not recommend staying the night there.

The Ocean House, the last Grande Hotel from the 20's has been torn down and is being rebuilt. Don't know when it will be ready to reopen but it will not be this year.

THE LAST TWO SEASONS
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 01/31/06
I had the privilege of working at the Ocean House as Breakfast Host for it's final two seasons. Since 1867, this venerable palace had opened the last week of June and closed the day after Labor Day. No TV's, no air conditioning, no telephones in the rooms....it sat there on a hill overlooking the Atlantic Ocean on the most beautiful beach ...

A Wonderful Memory
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 10/24/05
The Ocean House, in Westerly, Rhode Island, is a treasured memory of mine. I used to go there with my paternal grandparents, and my younger brother - my folks used to tag along as well. It appears that the wonderful, grand hotel is no longer there. I have never been able to place how special the memories I made there were, but they always ...

Don't let it go !!!!!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 03/28/05
Words can't describe the feeling. It was a great escape from todays time. It felt like an old time vacation, beautiful beach , big waves,no tv's,just the sound of the waves and the breeze from the salt air putting you to sleep at night. It kind of made you feel like you were living back in the 30's or 40's. To bad this was never made a historical site. It will surely be missed.

Bring it back!
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 11/01/04
I understand this beautiful piece of property has been sold and may never reopen. It was in need of a bit of renovation, but that was part of its charm for us. My elderly mother enjoyed the fabulous porch and was able to enjoy a shore vacation until she was almost 90.The food was excellent and the price was the biggest vacation bargain anywhere. If ...

There's no place like home....
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 07/15/04
The Ocean House means many things to our family and we are all sad at the talks of it coming down. I haven't stayed there in several years, but now have a child of my own and was looking forward to creating the magical memories with my family as my parents did for so many years with their 6 children. Every summer it was our haven, where we ...
