I understand this beautiful piece of property has been sold and may never reopen. It was in need of a bit of renovation, but that was part of its charm for us. My elderly mother enjoyed the fabulous porch and was able to enjoy a shore vacation until she was almost 90.The food was excellent and the price was the biggest vacation bargain anywhere. If ...
The Ocean House means many things to our family and we are all sad at the talks of it coming down. I haven't stayed there in several years, but now have a child of my own and was looking forward to creating the magical memories with my family as my parents did for so many years with their 6 children. Every summer it was our haven, where we ...

I waited many years to stay at the Ocean House, having driven by that grand lady forever but never stopping. My girlfriend, a native to the area who had also never stayed, and I finally had our dream come true several years ago. Yes we saw the state of disrepair and tried to envision it in her finer days but it was a magical stay none the less. The ...
I was saddened to hear of the recent sale of the Ocean House, the last great hotel in Watch Hill, or all of Rhode Island, for that matter. I will always remember its grandeur and will always consider myself blessed to have been a part of something bigger and more beautiful than any developer's self-serving dream. I can see every hallway, every ...

Viva Ocean House

I worked at this hotel for the past two summers, having met the family shortly after I moved into the area....from New Mexico, not knowing a soul. They gave me a job in this crazy, beautiful, chaotic, rambling, mythical, ominious, legal-pad yellow beheamoth that served as a beacon and watchpoint for local fishermen, and the apex of the summer for others. The Queen is dead. Long live Watch Hill.

Ocean House Being Razed!!!!!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/06/04
I am writing this through tears, who would have thought a building could conjur up such strong emotions, but this one can. The beautiful and glorious Ocean House built in 1868 is being razed within weeks, to make room for a greedy developers million dollar homes. This hotel is the last of its kind in RI. If you had the pleasure of staying there, be thankful you stayed in a part of history!

Location is spectacular - Watch Hill is the best beach in Rhode Island!! All the hotel's personnel are wonderful! There are many attentive young people to carry your bags and wait on you. And the food is really great - it is on the American Plan so a full breakfast buffet and full-course dinner are included (anything on the ...
