Although my husband and I wanted to support the efforts of a developing AB, this weekend's experience at the Berkeley was a disaster. There were over 150 kids on a school trip at the hotel. Running down the halls, banging on doors, crank calling our room at 1am, etc., etc., etc. Extremely limited air conditioning. The rooms were easily 20 ...
CEILING LEAKED, BROKEN A/C, SOME OF THE ROOMS HAD NO WATER IN THE SHOWER - OTHERS ONLY HAD COLD WATER, THE ELEVATOR IS A DEATH TRAP (OPENS ON RANDOM FLOORS FOR NO REASON, SHAKES TERRIBLY, TAKES YOU UP WHEN YOU PRESS DOWN, DROPS YOU OFF ON THE WRONG FLOORS, FEELS LIKE IT IS GOING TO BREAK AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT) WE STAYED HERE AS PART OF A BRIDAL PARTY ...
The Berkeley has a great history of housing musicians visiting Asbury Park and has the feel of a place where things have happened. The staff is great, very helpful, and they offer a nice breakfast.
It has a really spacious feel, unlike some of the rather cramped B & Bs in nearby Ocean Grove, with lots of corners to sit and chat in. Very ...
-elevators didn't always work -multiple key cards were deactivated -"air conditioning" is a joke; it's a box unit that puts out room-temperature air -ants in the bathroom -"ocean view" was a crock (we could see a sliver of it) -"continental breakfast" was 3 stale bagels -parking is extremely limited, and they ...
The elevator came off its track on the way and started banging against the walls.
The shower did not work.
There was no soap or shampoo.
A/C broken.
TV had been ripped off the bureau it was on, then apparently abandoned, then someone tried to place it on top of the mess that was left of the ecrew holes.
The ...

While the hotel itself is beautiful it is in the midst of a slum and a construction boom. It is difficult to get to the beach because of all the construction materials and debris lining the streets. There is very little parking - right out front of the hotel on the street - keep you doors locked! The pool area is not secure. When we got there, ...
I had read some really terrible reviews for the Berkeley Carteret, so when I checked in, I asked to see the room 1st. It was large, well furnished, clean and only $109. Go for a premium room that has been renovated and you will be fine. I have stayed numerous times at The Empress. It is nice, but the rooms are smaller, the AC never seemed to really work and it is 2xs the price of the Berkeley.

Are you kidding?

First off driving to Asbury Park i was scared shitless. The place is a dump. It looks like a hurricane hit a few weeks before and people were just rebuilding and cleaning up, but I guess its always that way. I pull up to the hotel and it looked OK, no not really who am i trying to kid. There was no parking at any time of the day, the people that ...

A waste of money -the neglect of a once beautiful hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/31/05
The air conditioner was not working properly. It was also leaking water. Although it was a non-smoking room, the carpet had cigarette burns and large black stains on it. It was disgustingly dirty. Someone called our room at 3:00 am then banged on the door. Save your 130.00 dollars+ go somewhere else.
