Too often we take electric lights for granted, never knowing what it was like before. Well, this was a wonderful tour of the time when the first electric lights were put in homes. As a engineer it was fascinating to hear about the trials and tribulations of setting up the structures to generate, distrubute and use electricity. Some of the first technology, like the light switches, are simply amazing.

I can't wait to go back again next year. I have two children under six and they both loved this house. We were able to check out what happened in the "olden days" with a personal tour from one of their volunteers and when we were finished they have interactive displays that the kids enjoyed playing with.
If you're in town, this is a quick stop. It is an historical home and it is beautiful. It won't take much time, though, so don't plan it as a day trip, make it part of a day spent in or near downtown Appleton.
