  • GOING BACK LATE MARCH....
    By JohnB, 03/09/09
To Hike all the awesome trails around the bridge! We really liked Long point, as this is the #1 view of the bridge. We also like the "bridge trail" but be careful on the slick mossy rocks.....Not a good hike for small children...We plan to go to hawks nest state park this year, as well as summerville lake......

  • Free & Exciting
    By Hannah, 11/10/08
New River Gorge is one of my favorite places in the state to stop and especially to take pictures. It isn't on the usual interstate highways in the state which makes it a state secret to many travellers. It is defiantely worth the drive no matter where you are from. Can't wait to go back soon.

  • Breathtaking!
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/24/07
I overcame my fear of heights and walked all the way down the wooden walkway to the lookout point. What a view! This bridge is twice the height of the Statue of Liberty plus the Washington Memorial. There are normally plaques giving information about the medicinal uses of the trees in the area, but these had been taken down, probably for updating. ...

  • New River Gorge Bridge is not in Charleston, WV...
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/03/07
Love the bridge, I have family from Ansted, WV and have been all over the bridge area and it is not in Charleston as the map and details are showing here. It is on US 19 in Fayetteville, you can even see it on the Hybrid view. So, you will be disappointed if you follow the directions on the map below...

  • Beautiful place!
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/22/06
Totally awesome and well worth the trip! In person it is even more beautiful than the photos. We would definitely go again... go through the museum at the visitor center there and look out the back windows towards the Gorge. You will miss the full extent of this experience if you don't take the boardwalk walkway down to see a totally different ...

  • As good as the Smoky Mountains
    By Rick, 09/12/06
If you are a hiker, the trails along the New River Gorge are every bit as exciting and spectacular as trails in the Great Smoky Mountains. I recommend the trails in the Canyon Rim area most highly because of the great viewing opportunities of the New River Gorge Bridge - the longest single arch span bridge in the Western Hemisphere (as of this ...

  • We're going back In May this year!
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/21/05
I went here 2 1/2 years ago for the first time and my 1st words out of my mouth were: "WOW this is wonderful". To visit this place, it does not cost any money, all though you definatly want to bring a camera and tons of film. The trip down to the bottom and back up can take any time. Weither your just for a quick view or wanting to make ...
