i play diamond back usually one to two times a week and i love it. It's very hard here in Abilene to maintaine a course with the lack of rain we get, yet when you play Diamondback you have great greens that are fast yet will hold your ball unlike other courses around here. Also the fairways do firm up some but they are still easy to hit off of. ...
A group of use had a weeks golf in Florida, and played Diamondback, Orange County, Shingle Creek and others. I can only say Diamondback was as at least as good as the more expensive courses, only critisism is the greens were a little slow, but keeping them a little longer stops them burnning up!

I've played golf in Arkansas too!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/26/06
The guys from Arkansas must have never played in their home state. The only courses there that would compare to Diamondback are the ones in Hot Springs Village.
Diamondback is a nice track, a pretty challenging layout, very nice greens, and has always been in good shape each of the many times I have played it, which is at least half a dozen over the years. In fact I intend to pay it this weekend.

Top 10 in Texas
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/15/06
I play 3-4 times per week in Abilene and Ft Worth. Diamondback is better than any course in DFW. Coody could have it ready for a major tour in 10 days. Other courses here are burning up where this one just thrives!!! The boy from Arkansas must of been in the mesquite thickett being poked by thorns all day. The fairway is a must, however it is not that tight. Magnificent!!!!!!!!!
Looks like someone from Arkansas had a bad round. I've played good courses all over the country. Each offers a different experience. Diamondback is about as good as you get for the price. If they belong to Augusta National, then I certainly understand the disappointment. Otherwise, I believe they must be talking about the wrong course. When you ...

Best greens I've seen
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/14/06
Just want to comment on the greens this week--May 14, 2006. They are the best, truest rolling I've ever experienced anywhere in the nation. My hat is off to Charles Coody and his greens superintendant. Congratulations on a wonderfully maintained golf course located in a very inhospitable environment. Just incredible!!!

Best public golf in Abilene area
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/09/06
Diamondback golf club is an exceptional public golf course. The fees are very reasonable for a course of this quality. The greens are challenging and always in excellent condition. The greens are seeded with Dominant Plus strain of bent grass while the fairways and rough are Tiffway 419 bermuda grass.
I'm from Abilene and play golf on a weekly basis. Of the public courses the general public can play in Abilene, Diamond Back is about the best you can get.The course itself will test your golf skills, and is usually in pretty good condition. HOWEVER.... The prices in my opinion are a little too high. As far as the staff being rude..... I have never seen it. They have always been helpful and friendly.

Needs improvement!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/09/06
The condition of the course wasn't very good. The shop staff seemed untrained and had negative attitudes. The course seemed very dull and not very difficult. Not a good test of golf!
Diamondback has never been in terrible condition. In fact it has never been in any condition other than great. And that is from the moment it opened. It is tough, and if your a double digit handicapper you may want to look at other places to play. Beautiful place to play golf.
