Caving is not a frequent habit, but is always a treat for our family. The convenience of location and lack of traffic congestion are definitely high points for this trip. The gift store was pleasantly well stocked with local and regional collectible items and as well as attractive clothing. The tour itself was interesting historically and ...

Lives up to its name

Very strenuous at times, but well worth it. My husband and 3 kids (15, 11, 6) and I all enjoyed it and were very happy that we fit it into our plans.

a great cave
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/23/08
Sure, its cramped and has narrow passageways, but that's all natural, and it adds to the experience. I think i only saw one formation that was "destroyed". It was a little black from people touching it years ago before we knew that that was bad. Something the whole family really enjoyed, and it wasn't actually that strenuous. But ...

Great Fun! Cool Cave!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/06/08
Very cool cave and unique gift shop! We had a great time. Our kids (ages 3 and 5) loved the cave and had no problems taking the tour. We purchased mining helmets for the kids in the gift shop before the tour and it really added to their experience, they even provided free batteries for the helmet light. Nice escape from the hot weather. Thanks!

Wow. Awesome Cave!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/04/08
It appears to be the most impressive cave of a number in the area. The Big Room is amazing with all of the formations. The Cave is on the side of huge beautiful valley. The views are really cool from there. It's easy to get to because it only a couple miles east of Keystone.

Awesome display of Black Hills Geology
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/05/08
I went on my first tour of this cave a few months ago and was amazed at the features that this cave had. I really loved the passageways and the stalagtites hanging from the ceilings. There weren't that many steps, some of the other Black Hills caves are arduous. The hardest part of this cave is just climbing the stairs into the gift shop. I ...

*Loved* it as a kid...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/23/07
I visited the cave when I was 11 years old. I've never forgotten my visit even though it was some 40 years ago and the cave was already an established touristy site. Some reviewers here have said the cave tour was arduous and not suitable for small children but I couldn't have weighed more than 80lbs or been taller than 4 ft something at ...
I've been to a few caverns and this was NOT one of the best: it was a waste of time actually. Although "family run", the kids are the ones who give the tours and operate the gift shop--and they are rather rude. I would NOT suggest anyone who has small kids, strollers, or the elderly (or tall people) take this trek, and frankly I ...

Don't waste your time.

The signs along the highway lead one to the Beautiful Rusmore Cave. The only "beautiful" thing about this cave is how beautifully it has been destroyed.

Good thing to do after the Presidents
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/06/05
The caves are really spectacular. The guides were knowledgeable and friendly. The tour involves some fairly arduous climbing through narrow passages...would be hard for the claustrophobic or for people with even moderate disability...our kids loved it though.
