The website is deceiving. The scenic ride consisted of following the road between Hill City and Keystone, and crossing the road 19 times. The only scenery we saw was the backyards of local homes, and not to mention a lot of trash in many of those yards. Getting on the train was a free for all. People shoved my husband out of the way, a woman would ...
Stayed in Hill City in a motorhome....We read the reviews of the 1880 train and decided to take the trip....What a Dull ride....sure, we saw some deer and a turkey or two but overall as a 50 year old couple there was not much to see...you dont see the old mines other than a few old shacks. What a snooze.... Value for the price of 20 dollars each was zilch....save your money and head to Yellowstone, only a few hours away.

Memorable ride
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/05/07
A nice train ride that lasted over two hours. There were all sorts of old mines and ghost towns along the way and we even got to see turkey with their babies! There were a bunch of different cars to choose from and the guide said our engine was a one-of-a-kind. Definately want to ride again!

By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/05/07
Our family rode the 1880 TRAIN on our vacation to the Black Hills and thought that it was a great way to experience history. This is a must see and do attraction.

1880 Train
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/26/07
The 1880 was pretty cool. The train took us through the beautiful Black Hills from Hill City to Keystone. You can even order pictures pro phototakers take of you on the train. The trip back was boring because you had to listen to the same tour guide stuff other again. It was pretty cool

Great historical experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/30/07
We really enjoyed this trip! The restored steam engines and railroad cars are truly impressive to see, and the scenery along the way provides plenty of photo ops.
Staff was friendly and informative on area history. Facilities are well maintained. Make sure to take a light coat if riding in the evening, as our trip got a bit cool.

Great Railroad
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/23/07
The last review states that the train runs from Deadwood to Hill City. Actually it is based in Hill City and runs between there and Keystone. None the less it is a great trip and very enjoyable. I have ridden the train around 5 times or so over the years and love it every time.

the 1880 train ride is a must see and do
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/25/06
I am in my 50's and have always wanted and never had the opportunity to ride a passenger train. While visiting family in Rapid City they learned of my love of trains and recommended the 1880 train as a must see. I can't say enough about how enjoyable the ride to Hill City and back to Deadwood was. It was both relaxing and thrilling all ...
