Pro: Train museum has many great pieces of rail history to examine, several still run.
Con: Rides and events end rather early (last ride starts 2:30) and large areas were self guided with only limited signs. Website helpful but "busy": requires some digging.
Basics: Train museum only $8 ($3 more for a short ride). For best experience double check details, ask questions and arrive early.
Finally had the opportunity to visit Steamtown! Definately worth the time! Took the trolley ride and visited the museum. Great displays and wonderful history. Lots to learn and enjoy. And you can't beat the price! Make a day of it! Would highly recommend to everyone! I went with my boyfriend and we had a great time! Also would be great for families.

Great hands-on place
By icove@sbcglobal.net, 08/05/05
Loved the steam trains. The resored roundhouse, museum & theatre all wonderful. A short ride on a steam train is included. One is able to roam the entire place and enjoy all the sights, sounds and smells of a real steam train yard. Good value for $6.00.
