The zoo is huge and their are a lot of animals, but most of them seemed unhappy and lethargic. We had gotten a year membership which I think was about 60 bucks or so, can't remember. You could easily spend all day here, but why would you really want to?

In the summertime there are busloads and even more busloads of wild children, and this ...

  • Nice zoo
    By Monkey, 07/22/07
Very nice zoo, just very spread out so be ready for some walking! Most of the walk way is covered by trees so not to much sun can get thru. Tons of animals and a great place for kids!

  • We can't wait to go back!
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/01/07
Our family goes camping @ Deep River in Asheboro and we go to the North Carolina Zoo every year! It never get's old. Most of the time when you go to the zoo once or twice you have seen everything there and that for our family is not the case when anyone mentions vacation to N.C. the first thing they want to know is if we are going back to the ...

  • *~No Fun!!!!!!!!!~*
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/18/07
I didn't have fun and it wasn't clean. The animals were mad and sleepy. When they wasn't run at the glass. Most of the animals were not out. I had more fun talking about people and playing with other children then looking at them animals. This zoo was not worth my time and money and If i could i would get my money back. If you are planning a zoo trip This is not the zoo for you. This zoo needs a lot of work.

  • A Great Zoo!
    By David, 09/19/06
This is one of the nicest zoos I've visited. They have created very natural and expansive habitats for the animals. Walking the trails was very pleasant but could be challenging in the middle of summer. There is a tram system which came in handy, particularly at the end of the day. The flora included a banana tree with bananas which is not ...

  • It's a lot of fun
    By Amy, 06/22/06
This place is pretty cool, it has North America, South America, & a fairly new addition of Australian animals. You can walk which is the best way to see everything or you can take the tram around to the different drop off sites. I don't recommend doing this during summer months, too hot & miserable. Not sure what the cost is, ...

  • I didn't know what I was missing.
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/08/06
The animals seemed very comfortable and relaxed. However, I never thought there would be that much walking involved in touring the zoo. I am glad it was not very crowded, it made it much easier to keep up with my grandson and husband.
I think our second trip will be better than the first. Next time we will know how to pack! You can't take drinks in but you can take an empty cup, they have water fountains spread throughout.

  • Great fun!!!
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/24/06
My mom and I went to here one Friday. It was a long drive, but worth it. My son loved to watch the otter pace back-and-forth under the water. He just kept laughing. They have a tram, but you still have to walk about 5 miles to see all the animals. I don't suggest doing it while 6 months pregnant. I was so tired afterwards.

  • We Love it!!
    By Kasie, 03/03/06
We go to the zoo all the time and it is so much fun! It isn't very crouded, especially during the winter season. A great place to go if you want to have fun with family and not be bothered by alot of people. Animals are housed in their natural environment and are very happy.
