Whether a Civil War Buff or not...This is a very educational & interesting place to visit...Plan on at least 4 hours...The USS Cairo is an amazing thing to see---watch the video in the Cairo Museum & it will make you appreciate it even more....The monuments are impressive; to say the least...We bought the CD which narrates you thru the ...
Having spent my summers in Vicksburg as a child, I spent many hours in the park. Last weekend I visited again for the first time in years. Even as an adult it is still thrilling still to visit. It was quite obvious this time that the section of the park devoted to the CSA was not as well maintained as the Union section. This is our country's most beautiful battlefield and hopefully the entire park will maintained equally.

One of the Best
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/05/07
I have visited the park 4 times in the last 25 years. The park is always clean and well maintained considering it's size. I've been to mostly all the civil war battlefield parks and other civil war historic sites, but this one is dedicated to remembering the fallen more than any other I have been to by far. My suggestions for anyone ...
I was very impressed with the set-up of the military park. Being a Civil War buff, I was very touched by all of the markers. monuments, and memorials that commemorated one of the most important and costly battles of the Civil War. I was very impressed by the attention to details that the park service made in marking and telling about specific ...

BEST HISTORIC SITE IN MS!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/28/07
EVERYTHING IS ABSOLUTELY NICE AND YOU REALLY GET A FEEL FOR THIS PLACE AND THE CIVIL WAR TIME PERIOD. YOU HAVE TO BE HERE TO EXPERIENCE IT ALL.
We drove through here, it was heart breaking, but an inspiration an encouragement. I, we, owe our way of life to those who have gone before us to fight for our freedom.

Memorial Day Weekend
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/29/06
The park was wonderful but it was disappointing that there was nothing going like re-enactments on for Memorial Day. I felt that many monuments were unaccessable because of the tall grass. The overall experience was nice. The Cairo Museum was cool. We will be back!
I enjoyed the battlefield. It was very nice, clean, and the statues and the information that is on them and the markers at each site is great.
The city has an old appearance to it. I found it a little run down and there's not too much to do as far as nightlife is concerned.

Must See

Lots to see...we spent a whole day exploring everything. Bring water! The only detraction was that you have to leave the premises to get something to drink.

Awesome place to visit
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/26/05
I love the civil war and I learned a lot here. So much neat stuff to see and do. I learned so much about the civil war visiting this great national park. The first mine on water came around this area. They are restoring a gun ship that should be on display here.
