  • Beautiful View
    By Brenda D, 07/13/09
We visited there this past weekend. It was a nice tour. Found graves of some ancestors buried in the cemetary out back. There was lots of damage after Katrina, but has been restored nicely. Nice cool breeze coming off gulf waters. Very enjoyable.

It was great before, now in the process of fixing it again. Loved the actual home he was in. Great history lesson if you visit. Call ahead to see when open again. Oh come when the do the recreation of the battle on the grounds of Jeff Davis. (The fall muster)-oct I think- and I think there's another in the spring.

  • A National Shrine
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/31/06
I LOVE this place, it is like going back in time. Yes, the storm destroyed much of it - but people all over America are sending money and it will re-open in 2008 just as it was! A great shrine for a GREAT American - Jefferson Davis. Go there, you will love it!
The people are so very nice, and the ocean is just across the street. I am going ...

  • Saddened but encouraged
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/28/06
We had the good fortune of visiting Beauvoir twice before Katrina and we do plan on returning for a visit again in the future. We were very concerned for Bequvoir and the library when we first heard of Katrina's approach and were hoping for the best. We were very saddened when we heard the news of the destruction but am very encouraged to ...

  • Still there
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/19/06
The Beauvoir house is still there, although it is badly damaged. Many of the artifacts have been lost, and some will be restored. There is a foundation set up to help restore the home. Check the site for donation information. Thanks to everyone who has expressed concern for this landmark. Many of our landmarks have been lost (Grass Lawn, Tullis Manor, the Pleasant-Reed House) but Beauvoir can be saved and the lighthouse is ok :)

  • Beauvoir will be rebuilt
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/13/06
Those of us who are MS Gulf Coast natives appreciate the concern and passion people show for our historical and important national treasure. We have a local contribution site set up to aid in the rebuilding of Beauvoir. It will return! Donald Trump and other celebrities, as well as citizens from all over the US have contributed money toward the rebuilding effort. Thank you to everyone for your concern! MS loves you!

  • Beauvoir oh Beauvoir
    By Gary W, 09/17/05
This whole tragedy of the hurricane is beyond the scope of my thinking and understanding. Tears seem so trite when viewing the devastation and the human suffering, our pitiful donations seem so slight. But to have lost dear Beauvoir seems beyond the pale. Our visit to Beauvoir in 1996 was a welcome respite from the casinos. The peace in touring ...

  • Fabulous tour
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/09/05
I enjoyed the artifacts and beautiful display of old southern living. A great memory with fantastic pictures to look at with my children in our photo album. The grounds were beautiful and well-kept. I hope that most of the artifacts were kept from harm's way. Would love to return to visit it one day.

  • Exceptional Experience
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/09/05
We were so impressed with Beauvoir and the Civil War history that it presented. Needless to say, as "northern-schooled" Americans, we only learned one side of the story! We were especially impressed with the amount of artifacts shown & preserved. And the stories about the Confederate solder were spellbinding. I hope all is not lost. We would love to return someday.
