This place makes the experience of rock climbing fun and easy. The staff was especially outgoing and helpful. It was a great way to get out and do something active!

  • Incredible Bouldering!
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/01/07
Loved the bouldering rooms. Lots of neat features and a good long traverse. Mostly a bouldering gym but has features such as an ice wall, a wall for dry tooling and a dyno wall. Some lead routes, too.

Great atmosphere. Regulars are very nice and welcoming.

Will definitely come again when I am in town.

  • It was Fun
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/30/06
The climbing walls were not as tall as I would have liked. Otherwise it was okay. It is probably better for smaller children (ages 8-12).

  • Fixed my Feet
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/05/06
While hiking on Isle Royale, I injured my plantars tendon in my foot. Frank made me custom footbeds for my hiking boots that not only fixed my feet but also eleviated some knee problems I was having! I haven't tried out the climbing wall yet but I have my eyes on the ice climbing wall. It looks awesome!

It was hard to find. But when you find it, they will come. Good work out. Great fun with friends. Especially friends from New York. Ok, bye now.

  • Much better than other gyms!
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/19/05
I learned to climb at Higher Ground. Their staff is friendly and helpful. They work hard to build a rapport with their customers regardless of age. They have very fair prices and top quality gear. Downtown Grand Rapids' best kept secret! I've been to other gyms; there simply is no comparison.

  • Cool afternoon place
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/15/05
I met the owner, not at all pretentious like previously said. Climbers were all friendly, no attitude here. Artificail ice wall was a reral plus

  • Worth the trip
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/25/05
Fun place. Friendly and helpful staff. Less expensive than other gyms in GR. They keep the place clean and picked up. No "climbers attitude" prevalent in the industry. New service of custom boot and shoe fitting and alteration. Mostly a top roping and bouldering place.

  • Higher than what?
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/24/05
Plywood texture paint gym. Twenty foot high climbing walls, two bouldering rooms, one top-rope room. Climbers are cool people there. The owner is pretentious. Lead climbing is kind of a joke there. no dry tooling. Good at getting new holds every now and then. Staff friendly(exception of owner)
