The hours spent there are very informative and it's fascinating to see the female lobsters releasing their young, right before your eyes. The tanks holding the young lobsters in several stages of development are truly amazing. The Museum portion is very low-tech but has lots of hands-on things for children. This is the real thing ... these people and the lobster fishermen in the area are actually raising little lobsters to release in local waters - they have turned loose hundreds of thousands. You get a chance to see the whole operation, plus they have the Maine Lobster Museum right there, too. We thought it was fun. The Museum has games to play while you learn.
The small fee goes to help run the hatchery.
