I liked the enormous amount of shade, the beautiful landscaping, the low admission price ($3.00) and large variety of animals.
I disliked the wooden plywood boxes used to house some animals as that makes the place look poverty-stricken (which it is, really).
Overall, a very fine diversion for folks who love to visit zoological gardens. Highly recommended.

We live in the area so we go often to our Zoo. Each of the kids have favorites but somehow each visit can still be a little different. There is enough variety and excitement to keep both of our children entertained (6years and 2years). In the cool part of the day the animals are most playful and enjoyable. We save a stop at the gift shop (an inexpensive $1 item) as reward for good behavior.
I loved this place! I was born in Alexandria, so I kinda miss the place...but I went back when I was fifteen and my parents took me back to the zoo...I didn't remember much about it...but it was WICKED AWESOME!!! No joke! I loved it! There was that place cut out for the 'gator and croc and there was a bobcat up there...well my mom decided ...

Everyone is very friendly, the park is clean, and there is plenty of shade if you ever get to hot. As always the animals were very entertaining.

this zoo is excellent for being in such a small area. they have made great strides since i moved here back in 1989 and i appreciate that. the new african exhibit is done with phase I and more phases are coming, hopefully in 15 more years, I will see as much improvement that has happened since 1989.
