The place was perfect for us. I was an arch. history major in college and he is really into the "scence", so it was a perfect fit. We loved Ocean Drive ( right on the beach). My advice is not to eat on Ocean Drive every night or you will be broke. We satyed for 5 days and went up north or into Miami to eat inexpensivly. A great place, we are going back end of month.
Glad I saw it but the real draw to this stretch of buildings in the nightlife and stores. In the end that didn't hold much appeal for me as the stores are reality pricey and the nightlife a bit too trendy.
The buildings however are remarkable and wonderful to see them in all their glory and bright colors during the day.
Even in the blazing heat of mid-July, walking down Ocean Drive is a pure pleasure. I'm sure it's difficult to park in South Beach; we stayed in the area and got around on foot. There is much to catch the eye: Art Deco architecture, the Atlantic Ocean, palm trees, and of course people watching. Mojitos can be purchased at numerous locations to slake the thirst. (But drink lots of water too!)
European Flair with continuous sidewalk cafes, white sand, brilliant blue waters, enormous cruise ships sailing by at dusk, fabulous people watching. Why go to Europe or South America when you can better food, weather, sights and fun in South Beach?
It's loud...it's wild...it's real. Everthing I love. If you are looking for a disney style manufactured resort stay away. This is a great "real" place where people to go party, relax and have a great time. The streets are jammed well into the morning with people hanging out at restaurants and having a great time.
