Liked the park but there is no tenting area set away from the RV's like at good campgrounds. And the RV'ers have the place booked solid for a long time out. They will not let you use the youth tenting area even when it is empty. I would have really enjoyed the place but I do not like being surrounded by giant boxes with TVs going 24 hours a day.
Where can you visit a real fort, go to the beach and bike ride (both paved and off-road) - Fort Clinch. We have been there a couple of times. There is also a Lighthouse that can be seen across the Salt Marsh. The last time we were there in December 2008, the fishing pier was closed for renovations. We didn't camp but loved wandering around the fort and the areas at the beaches. Very cool and an undiscovered gem for history lovers and families.

Best State Park In Florida
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/08/07
The park is so peacefull and beautiful. The beach is so nice and there are so many bike trails that are very scenic. The fort is also very cool and they allow you to walk through almost the entire fort. We have camped there over ten times and will be back soon.
It is one of the most peaceful and beautiful forts I have been too. A few times I visited, there was a candlelight tour and a re-creation that really made you feel like you were back in time. The fishing, trails, and buildings are enough to keep you busy for a whole day!

WE ARE COMING BACK

THIS STATE PARK IS ONE OF THE BEST WE HAVE VISITED. WE CAMP MOSTLY AT STATE PARKS, AND THIS ONE IS THE GREATEST SO FAR. NICE BIG SITES, THE FORT IS FUN TO GO AND VISIT, LOVE GEORGE. HE MAKES THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE. DISLIKES, WE CAN NEVER SEEM TO GET THE SITE WE ASK FOR, SITE #40, BUT GOT THE NEXT BEST, SITE 41. WE KEEP COMING BACK. IT IS JUST A GREAT PLACE TO VISIT.
Fort Clinch is nice but the water is weird. I only say that because it's right at the mouth of a river that flows to the Atlantic. Otherwise, it's pretty nice. I think the park itself needs more signs because it's easy to get lost on the unmarked roads.
