  • Military Aviation history at its best!
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 09/16/05
Located next to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware, it's open to the public and it's free! It's not just a guided tour with pictures and slide shows, there are over 10 retired military aircraft that you can board and breathe in its rich history. From WWII to present day, we get the bigger picture of where our air power started, and how ...

  • Edifying and Fun
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 06/29/05
The staff and volunteers of the Air Mobility Command Museum have done an extraordinary job of pulling off the near impossible; taking a less-glamorous slice of aviation history and making it educational and fun for all. There is something for everyone at this fine institution. Children will delight in the hands on

  • Excellent Historical Aircraft
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 06/21/05
The AMC Museum is an excellent place to view historical aircraft such as the C-47, F-106 and a B-17. The off-base entrance off of Delaware Route 9 is very user friendly. My kids enjoyed the displays and childrens "touch" area that allows them to flip switches and attach cannon plugs. The flying activities of Dover Air Force Base are also visible. Be careful though, the museum is closed on Sunday and Monday.

  • Liked it so much, I joined up!
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 06/16/05
The Air Mobility Command Museum at Dover AFB is quite unlike many museums I have visited in the past couple of years. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable (many are Dover AFB veterans) and they encourage people to tour the aircraft. While mostly covering transport aircraft, the museum also has some combat types like the P-51, B-17, F-101 and ...

  • Pure Professionalism
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 06/16/05
This museums fills a long needed spot in American history, portraying the less glamorous but still thrilling side of aviation. One wonders how so much could have been done in so many places by so few airplanes! The museum also fittingly salutes the people behind the planes, which is always the most important element. If you get within a hundred miles of Dover, you should make this Museum a destination.

  • An aviation marvel.
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 06/16/05
I felt that the aircraft and the information about them were presented in a very professional manner. The exhibits were clean and labels were well written. Did not come off as a highbrow institution, it was a fun place to visit and is a place where you can close your eyes and put yourself in the pilot seat. I liked being able to get into the ...

  • An Unexpected Trasure Trove
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 06/16/05
Fun, fascinating and inspiring is what my wife and I experienced on our visit. We had no idea really what to expect and although one might think this museum might be a little off the beaten track, to me it makes the expereince that much richer.

The main hangar is home to beautifully restored vinatge aircraft. The WWII B-17 is majestic and awe ...
