the gardens and historic grounds are tremendous!!! color theme gardens: blue garden, pink and red garden, victorian texture gardens , meadow gardens a nice compliment to the larger elizabeth park rose gardens and the nearby hill stead gardens in farmington the round zinnia garden was loaded with yellow finches and monarch butterflies !!
I enjoyed learning how Harriet Beecher Stowe assumed a new role for women as a writer. With her novel Uncle Tom's Cabin, she convinced Northerners about the evils of slavery. I saw how she lived in Hartford after she became famous. There, she enjoyed gardening and socializing with her neighbors, including Mark Twain. Her gardens still exist and are quite lovely.
