This was a great course, especially the different terrain, but in recent years the groundskeeper must be taking too much siesta.
It was cheap, but sometimes you get what you pay for. I decided to try a membership at the country club, and there i have no rounds longer than four hours.
I have played the course multiple times in the last two years and it still gives me a run for my money, Well maintained, good helpful staff, and most important a municipal course that still knows about ettiquette..well done. Oh and you will love the 17th hole its a full swing pitching wedge for me..dont ask how many times it took me to learn that.
Desert Hills GC has a good layout with a friendly staff and affordable rates. This is a municipal course, so don't expect anything fancy. When the seasonal rates are high in Phoenix and Tucson, this is a good alternative.
I live in the Phoenix area, and dollar for dollar Desert Hills is the best public course in the state of Arizona! If you're headed through Yuma, it's worth your time to stop and play this course! It's not the same old, same old flat course you usually find. This course runs back and forth across a plateau and mesa giving you holes that are uphill, downhill, and sidehill. This is a FUN course!!!
I play the course for a week early each December as the topper for my golf year and always find conditions excellent. The staff is always pleasant and helpful. I look forward each year to the week of superb golf at Desert Hills. Bargain priced at $28 to walk 18 holes. The course is a good test of golf, especially when the wind blows from the northwest.
