Simply a "Must Visit" for anybody interested in the formation of our country. The most amazing thing about Monticello is the sense that this place feels like a contemporary home not one built 200 years ago!
Despite the obvious brilliance of Thomas Jefferson you can also see the dark side of this enigmatic former President with the exhibits devoted to the slaves of Monticello. Please visit as soon as you can!

A great place for a history lesson
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 07/04/05
We stopped here on our way to the outer banks in n.c. Jeffersons home and the grounds is amazing. He had great views of the country side. His home almost seems like it was built before its time. We almost didnt stop here thinking it might not be worth the time, but we soon found out it was well worth the short drive off the interstate.

a must see for everyone

Look at a five cent piece and see Monticello. The real thing is so much better! The views from the mountain top are beautiful, even in other than perfect weather. Can be crowded. There are several tours plus a self guided audio tour that is good for people on their own time. The tour about the slaves at Monticello is very good. Liked the ...

The Gift of History

If one is interested in our country's history and where we came from, this is one tremendous place from which to learn. Walk the house and grounds and be transported back to the late 1700's. Feel the winds as they crest the hillside of Monticello....study the plants and flowers as they could have been growing around the house......walk the ...

Great Place
By PetuniaPie, 08/19/07
We actually got more for the price of the ticket. We were there on July 4th and got to be apart of the Naturalization ceremnoy. It was quite an event. The keynote speaker was actor Sam Waterston who gave a very moving speech. This place is rich with history and I will definitely be returning.

HELPFUL HINTS
By Annie K., 05/25/08
I went there and the money was all spent on transportation up there. hint: we walked down and its not even a fourth of a mile and that was the short route that passes through the family graveyard not on the tour.So walking up isnt that bad at all. trust me, my mom is a real picky person when she is tired. Its also smart to go when it is cold. less people go there. be sure to visit the other presidents' houses on the way down!!
