My husband and I took this tour in December of 2008. It was so interesting. We felt like someone was taking us back in time to the infancy of the island. Since the tour I notice everything when I visited sections of the island. Emory is one of the island's treasures.

Emory introduced us to so many unique things about this island that we had never heard in the past 15 years of trips to HHI. The tour was very professional, yet very personal. Emory made the history of HHI come alive with stories about the families who continue to live here. We would recommend this tour for EVERY visitor to the island.

This trip gives you a view of how the island has really grown, its history, and the very interesting people who have lived on the island - plus if you are not familiar with Gullah, its a chance to get a little introduction to this blend of English and several West African languages.

This was an excellent tour given by Marlena Smalls herself. She makes it an enjoyable day for the whole family. The crabcakes are excellent.
